Olivia and George Wedding Blog

Wedding Blog - Staffordshire - Live Music

We were thrilled when Livvy and George hired us as their wedding band and when we found out that they chose Foxtail Barns in Staffordshire as the setting to tie the knot. This venue is absolutely stunning and perfect if you’re looking for a really natural, rustic feel for your special day. Nestled into a 70 acre estate amongst 5 lakes, is an Orangery just waiting to be filled with guests for your wedding ceremony. With a glass roof and wall, there’s so much natural light to take advantage of and the greenery clinging to the oak beams is the perfect natural canvas for you to add your own splash of colour.

There’s always a great buzz at the venue when we arrive to set up for the day. You can feel the excitement building as we get closer and closer to ceremony time, and it’s lovely to catch little snippets of all the preparations going on behind the scenes. Livvy was tucked away in Foxtail’s Dressing Room with Bridal Hair by Michelle Jewess and Makeup by Lauren Victoria doing all kinds of bridal prep sorcery that we don’t pretend to understand. Meanwhile, final touches were being made by The Tiny Leaf Florist, who provided picture-perfect cream florals which complemented the dusty blue theme that the happy couple chose.

As always, the ceremony seemed to come around very quickly, and we loved performing L.O.V.E by Nat King Cole as the bridesmaids made their way down the aisle in elegant Wed2b dresses, followed by Livvy looking radiant in a fishtail lace gown with nude underlay by Essense of Australia, provided by Ivory White Bridal. George eagerly awaited his bride’s arrival, wearing a classy navy tweed suit by Bridgens and supported by his groomsmen and best man. To sign the register, the bride and groom selected Here Comes the Sun, and You’re My Best Friend, which filled the ceremony room with a laidback, romantic vibe. Finally, in front of all their nearest and dearest, Livvy and George officially became Mr and Mrs Murfin!

Foxtail Barns offer their beautiful walled English country garden for drinks receptions and, with mouth watering food provided by Jenkinsons, the newly-weds got the chance to mingle with their guests while we played a chilled acoustic set. This part of the day gives us a chance to start building more of a lively vibe in preparation for the evening reception, and also allows your photographer to capture some great candids of your guests. Adam Lowndes Photography is an absolute pro at this, and it’s always a pleasure to watch him work! Olivia also had a very special request: a song with strong ties to a loved one who sadly was no longer around to celebrate her marriage. It was a privilege to make this happen for Olivia and to ensure that a much-loved and missed family member could still be a part of the day.

Following the bride and groom’s entrance complete with napkin swinging (we love a bit of napkin action!), incredible meal and heartfelt speeches, we headed into our favourite part of the day: the evening reception. This is held in Foxtail’s aptly named Party Barn, and we always like to make sure it lives up to its name! Livvy and George’s drinks tower certainly helped us out with that! Following a beautiful first dance This Will Be by Natalie Cole (also their recessional song) the dance floor filled up fast as we played Olivia and George’s chosen set list.

They say that variety is the spice of life and variety there certainly was. There was a healthy mix of Oasis, Mumford & Sons, Arctic Monkeys and Kings of Leon interspersed with absolute bangers from S Club 7 and the Spice Girls. When the guests bust out the Hokey Cokey, you know you’re onto a winner and if people won’t dance to Build Me Up Buttercup at a wedding then when are they ever going to dance to it? The newlyweds ended their night with Wonderwall and we’re pretty sure we could still hear a very faint “and after alllll…” when Mr and Mrs Murfin made their way to their very own wedding pod, via the Kabooth photobooth of course.

Livvy and George, what an absolute pleasure it was to perform on your special day, meet all of your loved ones and watch you having the time of your lives. We wish you all the happiness in the world, and a long and loving marriage full of all your favourite tunes.

Maybe we will see you again at another wedding in the future?
